    在我以前几年中，我照过很多次X光照片。但从来未用过奥兹博士提到的小工具。这些小工具跟女性中增长最迅速的女性甲状腺癌有着很大关系……

    上周三，奥兹医生在一个妇女节目中演讲现今增长最快的女性癌病；『甲状腺癌』。这是一个非常有趣的节目，奥兹医生说这个在女性癌病中增长最快速的甲状腺癌，可能跟病人在照牙科的X光片和乳房X光检查有关。

    奥兹医生指出，当牙医帮您的牙齿照X片时，那个X机设备配有一个活动兜罩，可以举起和包裹在你的脖子上，保护甲状腺，但是许多牙医懒得去使用它。此外，还有一种叫做『甲状腺护罩』为病人在做乳房X光检查时用，但很多时都没有使用。

    很巧合，我昨天去医院做每年乳房X光健康检查。我问照X光 的技师：“有没有『甲状腺护罩』”，技术员说：“有，只是一直放在抽屉里，不经常使用”。我问为什么，技术员答：“我不知道。病人要问才会用”。

    嗯，如果我没有看过奥兹医生这个节目，我怎么懂得去问？

    虽然照X光检查牙齿和乳房，只需要几秒到几分钟，但由于『甲状腺』位于颈部下前方，呈盾牌状或盔甲状，X光的辐射很容易影响到『甲状腺』。

Thyroid cancer

    On Wednesday, Dr. Oz had a show on the fastest growing cancer in women,
thyroid cancer. It was a very interesting program and he mentioned that the
increase could possibly be related to the use of dental x-rays and
mammograms. He demonstrated that on the apron the dentist puts on you for
your dental x-rays there is a little flap that can be lifted up and wrapped
around your neck. Many dentists don't bother to use it. Also, there is
something called a "thyroid guard" for use during mammograms.

    By coincidence, I had my yearly mammogram yesterday. I felt a little silly,
but I asked about the guard and sure enough, the technician had one in a
drawer. I asked why it wasn't routinely used. Answer: "I don't know. You
have to ask for it." Well, if I hadn't seen the show, how would I have known
to ask?

    We need to pass this on to our daughters, nieces, mothers and all our female
